🚨NOTICE TO HOMEOWNERS – THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH KITEC PIPING

Kitec plumbing pipes, widely used in North America in the late 1990s and early 2000s, can pose significant risks to your property, often without your knowledge.

Initially touted for their flexibility, lightness, and simplified installation, Kitec ducts quickly attracted contractors and certified plumbers. For homeowners, these systems represented an economical solution, combining apparent durability with a low cost. However, this favorable reputation was short-lived.

Under various trade names such as Improved Plumbing, IPEX, IPEX AQUA, KERR Controls, Kitec, PlumbBetter and XP, these conduits have unfortunately revealed significant structural weaknesses.

Unlike copper pipes, which often last for decades, Kitec pipes have shown signs of premature wear.

Recurring problems include:

✅ Accelerated degradation: The combination of materials making up Kitec conduits can lead to rapid degradation.

✅ Leaks and ruptures: Fittings and joints are particularly vulnerable, increasing the risk of significant water damage.

✅ Potential contamination: In rare cases, plastic fragments can end up in drinking water, posing health concerns.

Due to these issues, the production and distribution of Kitec ducts ceased in 2007. If your home was built or renovated during the period in which these materials were used, it is recommended that you check for the presence of Kitec ducts. A professional inspection by a building expert or qualified plumber can help identify signs of wear and prevent potential damage.

As a homeowner, increased vigilance and proactive intervention can prevent costly repairs and protect the integrity of your building.
